Basic Sewing Skills
The Basic Sewing Skills is a non-credit bearing course that is approved by Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) and registered with the Human Resource Development Council of Botswana (HRDC). Basic Sewing Skills is a beginners’ course which introduces learners to the exciting world of sewing. Learners are introduced to different types of sewing machines, tools and equipment used in sewing.
This course is also designed to equip learners with different sewing techniques, understand simple sewing patterns and acquire basic fabric cutting skills. Using knowledge and skills acquired from this course, learners get to produce their first ever complete garments!
Learning Outcomes (LO)
- Use different sewing tools, equipment and machines in line with health and safety standard procedures
- Apply fundamental sewing techniques to produce simple sewing projects
- Demonstrate understanding of the process of pattern-making using basic blocks
- Use skills and knowledge acquired to produce desired pattern and sew complete garments
Projects
- Project one – Boys’ school shorts
- Project two – Girls’ school tunic
- Project three – Boy’s school shirt
- Project four – (Final project) – Students will make dress to demonstrate skills and knowledge acquired. The final project must incorporate techniques and use of different machines, tools and equipment covered in the course.
Certification
The Basic Sewing Skills is a non-credit bearing course but a certificate is issued after completing the course.
